This first edition of this joint Film Fund Luxembourg-FLAC film scoring competition was set up to highlight the significance of music in film and to identify and promote new local scoring talent. The 16th edition of the French-speaking co-production meetings (RCF), a film industry event taking place in Luxembourg this week in partnership with Sonic Visions, provided an ideal backdrop for the awards ceremony.

The objective of the initiative was to allow composers from Luxembourg, working or living in the Grand Duchy or with a cultural link to Luxembourg to experiment in a relaxed, playful setting, and to give increased visibility to the film scoring process within Luxembourg’s screen and music industries.

Competition applicants were given 5 months to re-score an excerpt of the 2015 Luxembourg film “Eng nei Zäit” by Christophe Wagner. Two awards are up for grabs: the prize for the overall winner of the competition worth €2000 and a prize for the best score by an emerging composer under the age of 30 worth €750, both courtesy of Film Fund Luxembourg.

The closing event at Sonic Visions will consist of a brief presentation (by each applicant, subject to availability) and screening of the three shortlisted entries in both categories, followed by the awards ceremony.

The competition entries were evaluated by a six-person jury under the chair of established Luxembourg film composer André Dziezuk.
